Today’s Romania still bears the mark of the Roman Empire civilization that once administered it. At the same time, the Romanian culture – religion, folk traditions, spoken language, the people’s way of thinking - possess numerous multicultural elements in their most intimate structure. Situated at the junction of great empires which dominated Europe’s history, the Romanian provinces were in turn under Byzantine, Ottoman, and Habsburg domination. In Transylvania influences of a Western culture, mainly of German origin, but also of Italian and French influence, can still be seen in the older medieval cities of Sibiu, Sighi?oara, and Cluj. To the South and East of the Carpathians, an Oriental influence is even stronger, as observed in the regional religion, painting, architecture and music.

Often compared to a "Latin island in a Slav sea", Romania features a unique familiar feeling in Eastern Europe: its language of a Latin origin, the Latin alphabet (quite rare in this part of Europe) and moreover the Latin temperament and friendliness of its people - all make of Romania a place where most visitor feel very comfortable and where foreign companies can do great business.

Bucharest? A mixture of Oriental nuance and Western refinement, Bucharest harmoniously mingles its many contrasts: crowded streets and terraces full of life, cavernous international restaurants and intimate cafes, office buildings of steel and glass near to romantic districts of old houses.

The period following the fall of Communism, in 1989, introduced a series of changes in Bucharest. During this time, it sought to strike a balance between the preservation of its historical character, the impulse toward expansion and modernization imposed by an extremely dynamic economic life. Romania joined the European Union in 2007, fostering, thus, the appetite of the international business community for investments in this great country.

That’s why Bucharest Meeting Point wants to kick off its first edition with an opportunity to learn, in a relaxed ambience, some interesting tips on Romania’s and Bucharest’s history and culture. Both, history and culture, without any doubt, have an influx in the way Romanians will do business with those foreigners attending BUMP. Find out how it will be!
